Reflection

As it was something that progress from the opera project I felt that the development of this project was really helpful to me it helped me expand my skills into costume making. The idea is really centred around the ones from the opera projects being that it was a juxtaposition of the natural environments and the man-made. I really got a chance to play around with the embroidery techniques as well as playing with materials I hadn't sewn with before such as the plastics. I understand that as an artist the way that I like working is with physical materials and as of the project was a completely hypothetical project and we didn't have to make anything it was really nice to develop that and start the process of making.

I really enjoyed playing around with the half scale costume making as it allowed me to produce work quicker and as this was only just a side project development I didn't have a ton of time to invest into this project as I would've wanted.

The development of this process was done independently and although I did enjoy it I do think that I work better when I collaborate with others as they push me to achieve a lot more. Although I did learn new skills such as machine embroidery I did stick into my comfort zone of costume making and I think if I had collaborated with someone else I might have pushed myself to try something new.

Going forward I would love to develop this project further by creating a collection or 1/2 scale garments- I want to make them for a puppet. As I looked into period garments I was influenced by traditional costumes worn in paintings- I would love to recreate them using abstract materials like plastics and metal.

I have actually discussed with Saki as she likes modelmaking if we could build a set for this piece that is also a traditional set that is made with modern man-made materials.
